Community Ownership: Parents likely have a strong say in how the service operates and what happens to children, all money earnt stays within it, and teachers may be paid better and childcare charges may be lower compared to most (but not necessarily all) private and corporate owned services. (Ask: Is it an Incorporated Society? Does it also have charitable status?)
Small Boutique Centre: Centres with 50 or fewer children make it easier for staff to provide a warm and nurturing environment, for children to have their individual needs met and skills, knowledge, and competencies extended. (Ask: For continuity of care and relationships, do children stay with the same group of children and teachers throughout their time at the service?)
100% Qualified Teacher Funded: All staff counted toward meeting the minimum adult-child ratio requirement must hold a practising certificate as a teacher if the service receives this level of Ministry of Education funding.
(as at last year):
Men Included on Teaching Staff (as at last year): There are strong benefits of having both men and women on the teaching team for the quality of care and education a service provides to children. Additionally, gender bias in staff recruitment and employment is not generally acceptable in society today. (Ask: How many teaching staff are employed and what proportion are men?)
(last year and year before):
Clean Licence Record (last year and the year before): To be licensed a service must comply with regulations that help ensure children’s safety, care, and a suitable standard of education. When requirements are breached the Ministry of Education may downgrade a service’s licence to provisional or issue a suspension. Check the lists of services placed on a provisional or suspended licence https://oece.nz/public/information/standards/
Recommended Highly by 80% or More Families: The service is recommended by at least 80% of families, based on results from the independent OECE parent survey. To qualify, the survey must have a response rate of at least 51% of enrolled families and have been completed within the past three years.

3 Reviews on “Greenpark Pre-school”
Oh, my goodness, where do I even begin. I am the Nan of two children, who both attend Greenpark Preschool — “L” in the under‑2 room and “R” in the over‑2’s. My grandsons came from a larger chain daycare where drop‑offs meant tear‑streaked faces that broke our hearts, and pick‑ups were often filled with chaos. As a family, we carried that worry every single day.
“R” has NF2, which means he needs extra support. He is vision‑impaired and can become overwhelmed by overstimulation. From the very first day, every single teacher at Greenpark has shown such deep understanding, patience, and genuine love for him. They know what helps him feel safe, they know how to comfort him, and they celebrate every little step forward with him. That kind of care is something you cannot put a price on.
Every day there is so much exploring, so many different activities, and endless opportunities for the boys to learn and grow. Through the guidance, encouragement, and pure adoration of the Greenpark teachers, both boys are going from strength to strength. Their confidence, curiosity, and joy have blossomed in ways we never imagined.
The biggest blessing — the one that still brings tears to my eyes — is seeing “R” happy and excited to go to preschool. Some days he even hides under the table at pick‑up because he isn’t ready to come home yet. After everything he has been through, seeing him feel safe, loved, and eager to stay is nothing short of a miracle to us. And little “L” is thriving just as beautifully, wrapped in the same warmth and care.
As a family, we’ve noticed something truly special: all the children are calm, content, and playing happily. There is a peacefulness in every room. It is so clear that Greenpark Preschool is a place where children feel loved, secure, and free to be themselves.
We cannot express our gratitude enough. Greenpark Preschool has given our boys not just care, but a second home — and for that, we will be forever thankful.
My daughter loves Greenpark Preschool and has absolutely thrived here. The teachers are awesome and it has a real family vibe to it!
After I collect my child from Greenpark Preschool, she is happy and absolutely ready for a nap! Which means she has had a fulfilling and stimulating morning. She had bonded well with the teachers and is as confident as ever. Being plant based, we have been made to feel respected, heard and cared for. So glad we made Greenpark Preschool our choice!
