Community Ownership: Parents likely have a strong say in how the service operates and what happens to children, all money earnt stays within it, and teachers may be paid better and childcare charges may be lower compared to most (but not necessarily all) private and corporate owned services. (Ask: Is it an Incorporated Society? Does it also have charitable status?)

Community Ownership:

Small Boutique Centre: Centres with 50 or fewer children make it easier for staff to provide a warm and nurturing environment, for children to have their individual needs met and skills, knowledge, and competencies extended. (Ask: For continuity of care and relationships, do children stay with the same group of children and teachers throughout their time at the service?)

Small Boutique Centre:

100% Qualified Teacher Funded: All staff counted toward meeting the minimum adult-child ratio requirement must hold a practising certificate as a teacher if the service receives this level of Ministry of Education funding. (Ask: Does the service count teachers trained in the ECE of children birth to 5 years and not primary or secondary school trained teachers?)

100% Qualified Teacher Funded:

Men Included on Teaching Staff (as at last year): There are strong benefits of having both men and women on the teaching team for the quality of care and education a service provides to children. Additionally, gender bias in staff recruitment and employment is not generally acceptable in society today. (Ask: How many teaching staff are employed and what proportion are men?)

I highly recommend Titoki Montessori to any parent of a preschooler. You can feel immediately that both the children and the teachers very much enjoy coming here every day. It is a warm and caring environment that brings out the best in every child. My son is now attending in his third year and I love how he developed into a curious, independent and self-confident little man.

This is the best Montessori preschool I have ever been to visit. Tracie, the head of school and her team are very dedicated to early childhood learning, not only they are all AMI diploma holders and well trained, I can tell they have established a close relationships with the children that when my boy went on the first day of his term break, and he already started asking me when can he go back to Titoki because he misses his school. I have never heard my boy asking such a question in his previous daycare at all, I am so sure something nice must have happened in this little community! I can’t thank the school and the teaching team enough for being there for us, supporting our boy to strive and grow. Ka pai Titoki!

Titoki Montessori centre goes above and beyond in catering to each child’s individual needs and interests. My daughter absolutely loves being there, and as a parent, I couldn’t be happier with the care and education she receives. Tracie, the school manager, is incredibly supportive and adds an extra layer of warmth and care to the Titoki.
