Street or Road: 1 Batchelor Street, Newlands
Phone: contact number is not available for new enrolments
Ages of children: Licensed to care for children from infancy
Group / Centre Size: The centre operates on a small and personal scale for children and families. It is licensed for 50 or fewer children. It is what we call a 'boutique' early childhood centre.
Qualified teaching staff: 80% to 100% of teaching staff are qualified teachers (according to funding claimed from the Ministry of Education, last updated beginning of 2020).
Shows Children that Men Can Teach and Care for Young Children Too: In 2019 the teaching team was, known to have been usually or all of the time, women only. (Note that it is best to have gender balance with children being taught and cared for by both men and women. In Home-based ECE this criterion relates to visiting teachers only)
Is this service HIGHLY Parent Rated?: THIS SERVICE CANNOT YET BE CLASSIFIED AS A HIGHLY RATED SERVICE. (To be so it needs to have a number of recent positive reviews - at least 5 positive if a small centre, or 10 if a mega-centre or a home-based service)
COMPLIANCE warning: It has a clean record. It's licence was not downgraded by the Ministry of Education in 2019 or 2020 as far as we know (if you want to check on its history before 2019 go to more info below)
My son has been at Bright star for almost 4 years and it is like a second home to him. The owner Linda is in the floor all day and is able to attract and retain a quality group of teachers.
Brydon Gillam likes: The teaching team. Catering. Hours and flexibility.
Brydon Gillam dislikes: Nothing really., Maybe make more use of the vertical space in the playgroun
Review of Bright Star Early Education Centre

I love this place. For me it is convenient to where I live so makes drop off and pick up a breeze.
The team are amazing, they know all the kids and parents names, they make sure our precious babies are well taken care of.
They provide te reo and singing, messy play and before school prep. My son has been at the centre since he was 7 months, he is now almost 5 and I cannot be prouder of the boy he is becoming, all thanks to Linda and the Bright Star team.
Highly recommend the centre.
Natalie Dickson likes: Te reo, inclusion, the atmosphere of the centre. The teachers
Natalie Dickson dislikes: I really dislike nothing.
